About B-BBEE

Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) is a government policy to advance economic transformation and enhance the economic participation of black people in the South African economy.

In 2003, the South African government introduced the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act 53 to address the inequalities experienced by black South Africans. The Act is implemented through the B-BBEE Codes of Good practice which has five pillars. These are:

  • Ownership
  • Management control
  • Skills development
  • Enterprise and supplier development
  • Socio-economic development
